The folk are also incredibly gullible and do not know when they're being horribly manipulated by bad people, which was pretty infuriating to watch.Īs for our main trio, it's a mixed bag. The townsfolk definitely got on my nerves sometimes, as they barely show any respect to Mao Mao who constantly saved their lives from incoming monsters not even a thank you most of the time! There honestly aren't that many fully likeable characters (townsfolk and main cast) in the show, unlike other shows I've covered.
It's a shame that they look so great but act so. I didn't hate the main characters or want to turn off my screen whenever they appeared, but they also didn't make me ecstatic when they showed up either, they were just. Sadly, this is where HOPH tends to flop a bit. Dark humour such as joking about family neglect, a character almost slicing someone in half, and a handful of shocking or unsettling scenes (ones than make you go "What the actual heck", not in a good way) are also prevalent. ⚠ MILD CONTENT WARNING: There's a good amount of " loud" humour throughout episodes, such as characters screaming at each other, which may not be fun to watch or hear. Overall, while this cartoon wasn't amazing nor terrible, I still found myself enjoying it a decent bit and in the end, is still a show worth giving a try! I'd recommend HOPH to people who enjoy the fantasy, adventure or action genres! Having said that, I do still think HOPH did amazing in other aspects, such as it's amazingly high-quality visuals, great action scenes and pretty good characters! I found that a lot of the show's humour and episodes were quite a let-down, which was a shame. I was drawn to the show's really breathtaking visuals and character designs, (as seen from the poster!) and it just looked really cool! I had some pretty high hopes for HOPH, however sadly it wasn't as enjoyable as I had previously imagined.
